The renewable energy industry is experiencing rapid growth globally,
for example, installed wind generation capacity increased more than 10
fold between 1990 and 2006 and is expected to triple between 2006 and
2010. The growth in Australia is going to be more apparent now than in previous years, this will be largely due to the introduction of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) in 2010 as well as the introduction of various government subsidies that will cement growth in this sector.
The CPRS is expected to yield AUD$4.5 billion in carbon permits in 2011-12 according to the Federal Government’s revised fiscal impact of the CPRS. Carbon permit prices will be based on $10 per tonne in 2011-12 rising to over $20 per tonne in 2012-13.
